Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about tree removal, trimming, stump grinding, permits, and working with TreeMax. Don't see your question? Call us directly.

01How much does tree removal cost in the Sacramento area?

Tree removal costs vary based on tree size, location, accessibility, and complexity. Our service visit minimum is $650. Small trees bundled with a larger job may come in lower, while average jobs run around $2,000. Large or complex removals — big trees, tight access, proximity to structures — can range from $1,500 to $10,000+. TreeMax always provides a free, detailed on-site estimate before any work begins — no surprise charges.

02When should I remove a tree versus just trimming it?

Trimming is the right choice when a tree is structurally sound and healthy but has overgrown branches, poor clearance, or dead limbs. Removal is typically recommended when a tree is dead or dying, severely diseased, structurally compromised (leaning, split trunk), located too close to a structure, or poses an immediate safety hazard. Our ISA-trained crew can assess your tree and give you an honest recommendation.

03Is TreeMax licensed and insured?

Yes. TreeMax Tree Service holds California Contractor License #1040660 and carries full general liability insurance as well as workers' compensation coverage. We're happy to provide certificates of insurance before we start any work on your property.

04Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Citrus Heights or Sacramento?

Permit requirements vary by city, tree species, and tree size. Many municipalities in the Sacramento area — including Citrus Heights and Sacramento — require permits for removing heritage trees or trees over a certain diameter. TreeMax will let you know if a permit is likely needed for your specific situation and can help guide you through the process.

05What is included in a tree removal job?

A standard TreeMax tree removal includes: cutting down the tree in sections as needed for safety, removing all wood and brush from your property, raking and blowing the area clean, and optional stump grinding (quoted separately). We haul everything away — you won't be left with a pile of logs or branches.

06Do you offer stump grinding? Is it included in tree removal?

Yes, we offer stump grinding as an add-on service or standalone job. Stump grinding is typically priced separately from tree removal since it requires specialized equipment. Grinding removes the stump below grade, allowing you to plant grass, flowers, or a new tree over the area. We can quote both together or independently.

07Does TreeMax offer emergency tree service?

Yes. We provide emergency tree services for storm damage, fallen trees on structures, split trunks, and other urgent hazards. Response times depend on current demand, but we prioritize safety emergencies and will get to you as fast as possible. Call us directly at (916) 580-7932 for emergency situations.

08What areas does TreeMax serve?

TreeMax serves Citrus Heights, Antelope, Carmichael, Sacramento, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, Folsom, Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, and Loomis. If you're outside these areas, give us a call — we may still be able to help depending on the size of the job.

09How do I get an estimate from TreeMax?

Getting an estimate is easy and completely free. You can call us at (916) 580-7932, fill out the form on our website, or send us a message. We typically respond same-day. We'll schedule a time to visit your property, assess the job, and give you a written quote before any work begins.

10How long does a typical tree removal take?

Most residential tree removals are completed in a single day, often in just a few hours. Large, complex jobs — trees near power lines, multi-tree projects, or difficult access situations — may take longer. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we come out for the quote.

11Will my yard be cleaned up after the job?

Absolutely. Cleanup is a standard part of every TreeMax job. We remove all wood, branches, and debris from your property, then rake and blow the area. Our goal is to leave your yard looking better than we found it. Logs can be left for firewood at your request, but all debris is hauled away by default.

12What payment methods do you accept?

TreeMax accepts Cash, Credit Cards, Zelle, and Cryptocurrency. We keep payment flexible so it's easy for our customers. Payment is due upon job completion — we never require full payment upfront.

13Does TreeMax work with insurance claims for storm damage?

Yes. If a storm has damaged trees on your property, we can work alongside your insurance company. We can provide documentation, photos, and detailed invoices that support your claim. Contact us and we'll walk you through the process.
